Malnutrition Reduction

Have you ever heard of the GO (energy-giving), GROW (body-building) and GLOW (body-regulating) foods? These three food groups are essential in our bodies to get the nutrients that we need. Without these, our bodies will become weak and we won’t be able to do our daily tasks efficiently.
Nowadays, we often hear that malnourishment is one problem with infants aging 6 months up. Because of our country’s crisis, there is a low supply of food which in return, causes sickness or underdevelopment to babies. It manifests that malnutrition will not only affect the health of one individual, but also to the whole country.
What can we do to avoid malnutrition in infants? Complementary feeding is a strategy the government has made which aims to give a variety of foods and liquids to infants starting from their 6 months while giving them breastfeed. Through this, there will be less cases of dwarfism to children 6 to 24 months old.
What are the right ways of feeding them? By continually giving breastfeed and complementary foods to babies, they will grow and develop well and will be free from sickness. Maintain cleanliness in the surroundings and practice giving them the right kinds of food as they grow older. Encourage them to eat when they are losing their appetite. Wash and clean the utensils in preparing the food. And don’t force them to eat. Be patient in feeding them.
As an individual, we can help disseminate the information about the Nutrition Month celebration. We should join and support in the different activities in promoting complementary feeding through production of streamers, media exposure, seminars, medical missions and others. In school, we can participate in special activities like nutrition quiz shows, cooking, essay writing, jingle making and poster making contests.
The value it implies to us is to encourage mothers to give their children breastfeed frequently. They can give their children 1-2 glasses of milk everyday, as well. Let us save these infants and young children from malnutrition. Let us take part and protect them from harm.

Into the Future

There is no such thing as a time machine. But, if given the chance to travel through time, I would want to go to the future. I have always imagined how the world would look like during that time. It keeps me excited but at the same time, I feel a bit of fear.

When it comes to predicting the future, I become idealistic. Of course, everyone of us wants to have an ideal life. But I came to know that we can't really have this kind of life. Unless we work hard to achieve our goals, we can't have a life that we're dreaming of. Like me, I've always wanted to be a successful nurse someday. In orde to attain this, I try to focus in my studies so that I will have no regrets for not reaching my goal.

In life, there are always the ones that we call, "blocks in our way." These are the things that we need to surpass and overcome for us to emerge as winners in our daily tasks. These blocks serve as our guide and make us stronger in facing what's ahead of us. And if ever we lose hope, there is always one person above who is ready to help us go through those challenges and that is God.

Each one of us has their own perception about the future. Some have already planned on what they will do while some just want to go with the flow. How will our future look like? Nobody knows. The answer lies within ourselves and on how we will build our future. As they say, "The future is in our hands."

The change is ME

The world is so huge. They say, it is very difficult to live there. And yes, in fact, I am on of its inhabitants. No matter how cruel life is, I will keep holding on because I believe I can do something to build a better world.

Crimes committed here and there are like bullets shooting every person it points at. The forbidden drugs just slowly kill the system of those abusers. Forest fires and illegal logging are degrading our natural resources. Pollution is not only destroying our environment, but also the lives of many people. Technology has also been a medium in human trafficking.

We are the first ones affected by all of these hazards. And we should be aware that we are the ones who caused those, as well. What can we do to change this? Or rather, is there still anything we can do?

The answer is simple, but hard to put into action. As a concern citizen, I therefore can make a difference. I am going to start that change with myself. Just by simply putting the trash in the proper place is already a big help help in saving our environment. By having self- discipline, I can contribute in promoting peace in our country.

Third Quarter is Over!

30, 29, 28, 27...the counting goes on. But, I don't want to think about it yet at this moment. The laughters, tears, failures and triumphs we've shared - they are so precious that I can't bare to forget.

For now, I just want to remember all the things that happened during the third grading period. I was always present in class, unlike the other grading period because of extra-curricular activities I've participated in. As a result, I was able to understand our lessons well and I have encountered less difficulty in studying for our exams since I have all the notes that I need to review.

In our TLE subject, I was anxious to learn how to create a web page because I have really no idea how to do it. I was also amazed to know that there is a program that is really designed in making web pages and it is Microsoft Frontpage. It is nice to be able to discover new things like these.

Fourth grading period has already started. I just wish that I will maintain my good study habits and I know that they will be helpful to me when I will go to college.

Spirit of Christmas

Everytime the month of December comes, it's like the whole place is filled with color. Those flashing lights and delightful decorations make the celebration more meaningful. But, are these enough for our preparation for the coming of Jesus? Sometimes, we forget that 'his coming' is the main reason why we're celebrating Christmas.

In the streets, I see a lot of unfortunate people, most of them are just kids earning money to feed themselves. Questions pop into my mind like "How do they celebrate Christmas?" or "Do they even celebrate it?". These questions are left unanswered.

People blessed with luxury often waste their money buying unnecessary things like new clothes, shoes, jewelries and others during this time of the year just to show-off or brag of what they have. They aren't thinking about the others who are working hard just to have a decent feast for Christmas eve.

Love is the key for us to be prepared for 'his coming'. We should realize that the true meaning of Christmas is not measured on the value of gifts you receive or how expensive is your feast. It is the love that should reign in the hearts of each and everyone of us.

Being A Filipino

Hospitable, warm, caring, loving, hardworking - these are just some of the values that we, Filipinos should be proud of. These are the things which make us unique and different, and it is our distinction from the other races. We should value these traits and show them to the whole world.

In relation to this, our school launched the Values Month celebration. It showcased the talents of students in singing, dancing, drawing and others which depicted some of the values of a Filipino. This year's theme was "Pagpapatibay ng Pagkataong Pilipino: Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon." We should therefore strengthen our Filipino values and let us not be ashamed in showing our true colors to be a better person in the future.

The modernization of our world right now is irrepressible. But, this doesn't mean that we need to change our ways and values. We should instead uplift them and retain these values which make us a true Filipino.

Life Lessons

When a wind blows, it can never come back again. . .
make the most out of it.

Second grading period came to an end. But it seems that I haven't learned much in our subjects. There were a lot of activities in and out of school that took place during this period. And it really was a destruction for us students.

On the other hand, I must say that because of these activities, I really learned a lot. The best example would be the National Leadership Training that I joined last September. It was really a learning experience for me and my fellow delegates, as well. The quiz bees I've joined in the Division English Olympics, UNP Foundation Day and UP Namnama also contributed a lot in my development as a student.

Although, I am facing the consequences of not being able to attend classes regularly like having low scores in our exams, I haven't regretted once all of the things I've experienced. I will never trade these experiences for anything.
